| Hello Friends, The year 2007 was a true milestone. It marked the 30th Anniversary of Elvis’ passing and everyone in the world celebrated the King of Rock n’ Roll. Let’s take a look back and review all the things that happened! We organized yet another successful charity show. On March 24th -25th, 2007 the Ultimate Elvis Show starring Brian “Elvis” Simpson, Adam “Elvis” and Aaron Wong with special guests Ben “Preslee” Klein and Jackson Vanderveen raised $1058.00 for Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. Hundreds of fans came out and enjoyed watching our two exciting theatre shows with this stellar cast of ETA’s. All our charitable contributions can be view at the official Elvis website at http://www.elvis.com/fan-relations/charitycharts On March 31st, 2007 we celebrated our “2 Year Anniversary Party” and hosted a private viewing of the dvd “Elvis Lives – The 25th Anniversary Concert” Fan club members who were in attendance were able to have their pick of free Elvis merchandise & memorabilia to take home, which was donated to the club by a loyal Elvis fan. Thank You! There was great food, fun games and live music. Viva Las Vegas baby!! In April, Vice-President Sandor Gyarmati and myself took a trip down to Sin City and met up with the All Shook Up In Las Vegas EP Fan Club president Judy Richard to celebrate her birthday at the all new Elvis’ Restaurant & Lounge which is owned by the veteran tribute artist Elvis Nargi. It was great to meet new Elvis fans and sing a few Elvis karaoke songs too! During our stay in Las Vegas, we were able to catch the “American Superstars” show at The Stratosphere Hotel staring our very own Canadian…Darren Lee as “Elvis” It was nice to share a few words with him after the show and pose for a picture. We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel, where they had a bunch of very rare Elvis memorabilia on display both in the hotel and café gift shop. Our trip would not have been complete if we did not visit the Hilton Hotel. It was sad to see that the tribute to Elvis bronze statue has been moved to the outside of the hotel. However, it has been refurbished and looks fantastic. |
The 5th annual Penticton Elvis Festival was held on June 22-24th, 2007. It was a great festival with our very own Aaron Wong taking First Place in his category and Jeff Bodner as the winner in the Professional Category. Congratulations guys !! Not only was Jeff the Pro Winner, but he was also a Pre-Qualifying winner for the very first EPE Inc. sponsored “Ultimate Elvis Contest” Over 70,000 fans gathered in Memphis in August to celebrate Elvis Week 2007. During the week, EPE Inc. introduced the first-time event, the 2007 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest. Twenty-four of the best tribute artists from around the world (including our favourites Ben Klein, Gino Monopoli and Jeff Bodner) traveled to Memphis to compete during the event for the title of Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist of 2007, where Shawn Klush of Pennsylvania was announced as the winner. August was a jam packed Elvis month for sure. On the day of his passing, our fan club hosted a huge party at the Old Admiral Pub to honour the King of Rock n’ Roll. It was a full house indeed, with the Vancouver Sun and CTV News crew present. Elvis fans enjoyed performances by local ETA’s , prize giveaways and classic Elvis movies were shown on the TV screens. Then on August 31st, 2007 marked the 50th Anniversary of when Elvis Presley performed here in Vancouver at Empire Stadium. There was a huge celebration concert held at the PNE with ETA’s Wally Tiemer and Steve Elliot. Together, with emcee Red Robinson and Elvis’s best friend Joe Esposito, they put on a fantastic show. Afterwards, they were all available to sign autographs. Our own fan club members were also there dressed up in Elvis attire to help sell the 50th anniversary concert posters that were printed for this special occasion. As the fan club president, it gives me great joy to announce that on October 17th, 2007 my wonderful wife and I celebrated the birth of our first baby girl. Her name is Sienna Marie Leyk. |
The Legends of Rock n’ Roll presents … ELVIS, ELVIS, ELVIS the show. This was held on October 26th, 2007 at the Bell Performing Arts Centre in Surrey. Performers were Justin Shandor, Danny Vernon and Greg Miller, who each played a different era of the King’s career. Afterwards, a few fan club members were able to exchange a few words and pose for some photographs. The fan club received a complimentary autographed CD from Justin. It won’t seem like Christmas without …. Community Angel Day! Again this year on December 16th, 2007 The Official Elvis Presley Fan Club of BC members donated their time and talents and participated in the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society’s - Community Angel Day. Lets all help fight hunger. I Would like to say "Hi!" to our Elvis friends on the East Coast, Kathy in Collingwood, Pete in Etobicoke and Wade in Vernon Bridge.
